My first reason why you should read this book, is because it's relatable characters and plot. This book is better than the hunger games, but the plot is kind of the same as The Hunger Games. They both have a rising hero, a lower class, a higher class, and some bad guys too. The Arch governor runs every last bit of the world and does not show mercy, which you can relate him to President Snow. You can also relate Darrow to Katniss. From the cover of the first book, Red Rising, it says, "Ender, Katniss, and now Darrow."-Scott Sigler. This book is not a copy of the hunger games, but it does relate to the hunger games immensely. It has its own characters and background story. Dancer, Harmony, and Matteo remind me of Effie and the drunk man, who helps them throughout. Mickey reminds me of Cinna. Although Cinna was a lot more caring, they resembled. Mickey was crazy and awful to people. Mickey and Cinna both made the main character more beautiful though, Katniss with her capital look and Darrow with his Gold look. There are many more examples of what I mean by the relatable characters, but I mostly spoke of them all for the Hunger Games.
Red Rising is very different also. It has things that no other book, even Hunger Games, has. Red rising has an interesting structure and point of view. In the beginning, Darrow is on a giant drill that only a Hell-Diver bears. It starts off normal and getting into showing everyone what it is about, than they get a whipping and the wife dies. It is very tragic and leads Darrow into getting himself killed, hung. Later in the story though, you find out he never died, and three people, Harmony, dancer, and Matteo, take him and try to make him into a Gold, which they end up doing. Then Darrow needs to get into the institute, where in the first part, The Passage, he is naked in a cold dark room with someone else. The winner is the one who kills the other and takes the golden ring, which I found awful, but this leads to difficulties later in the story when he becomes good friends with the victims brother. It is very cruel, but it is set up nice, so you are never reading anything boring, and the exciting parts you can understand, plus it is in Darrow's point of view, so you can read and feel everything he goes through and thinks like, which I love to know what he is thinking. I believe that you would love this book to because it has an interesting structure and point of view.
